After completing a master’s degree on Siegfried Kracauer’s Weimaraner serials (Philosophy –
UOttawa), Frédéric Mercure Jolette defended his doctoral thesis on the history of urban planning in
Montreal during the Trente Glorieuses (Political Science – UdeM) in 2020. He is interested in political ideas and the discursive form taken by the experts’ claim of authority and the injunction to citizen participation in urban planning. He is particularly interested in the origins and consequences of the paradigm shifts that took place in the 1960s and 1970s. Frédéric is also a professor of philosophy at Cégep de Saint-Laurent since 2010 and a member of the editorial board of the journal Politique et sociétés and foreign correspondent for the journal Métropolitiques since 2019.
He is currently working with Sophie Van Neste and Clarence Hatton on an analysis of the paradoxes and evolution of the discourse of suburbanization, through a case study on the development of the City of Anjou.
